What Drives Verkada Costs for a Bay Area Property

The parts of a Verkada quote and what changes each one: licenses, device counts, controllers, cabling and door hardware.

Quick answer

On most products, Verkada's pricing page says price includes hardware, and an additional license is required. A site walk is the next step to scope the work at your doors and ceilings.

Key takeaways

  • Verkada licenses are mostly counted per device: one door license per door and one camera license per Verkada camera.
  • Licenses come in 1, 3, 5 and 10-year terms and share one expiration date for each Command organization.
  • Verkada cameras use PoE, access controller connections need shielded cabling, and Verkada recommends an external power supply for maglocks.
  • Verkada's warranties run up to 10 years depending on the model, so check the datasheet for each device on the quote.

What is a Verkada quote made of?

Verkada's pricing page carries the note "Price includes hardware. Additional license required."

Elwin installs, configures and supports Verkada systems. For the service itself, see Verkada installation and service.

How do Verkada licenses affect cost?

Verkada's license page counts most licenses per device, so adding a door or a camera adds a license line.

Licenses come in 1, 3, 5 and 10-year terms. They apply to each Command organization and co-term to a single expiration date, which means licenses bought at different times for one organization share one end date.

Lapses, replacements and grace periods

Verkada's license page gives two grace periods. An expired organization has 30 days before it loses access, and an organization with insufficient licenses has 90 days. The same page says all devices remain functional when access to Command is restricted.

If you uninstall or replace a product, for example for a warranty replacement, the page says you must delete the product from Command, or it keeps counting against your active products.

Door controllers AC62, AC42, AC41 and AC12One door license per door
Verkada camerasOne camera license per Verkada camera
Non-Verkada cameras on a Command ConnectorOne camera license per camera (channel)

Which hardware choices move the price?

Verkada's AC62 datasheet says it can manage up to 16 doors, door accessories and fire alarm. Verkada's license page counts one door license per door.

Cameras are counted one by one, and each Verkada camera brings its own license.

Readers and credentials

Verkada's access control page says you can keep existing readers and cards, or upgrade to modern credentials like mobile NFC in Apple Wallet. Whether the readers already on your doors work with a Verkada controller is worth settling before you price new ones.

Existing cameras

Verkada's license page counts a non-Verkada camera connected to a Command Connector as one camera license per channel, so older cameras can stay on a Command organization at a license cost.

What does the installation work include?

Verkada's best-practices article says a Command organization is required to manage and troubleshoot Verkada devices and to stage the devices to ensure the installation is successful.

Verkada's wiring guide recommends an external power supply when wiring an electromagnetic lock (maglock), though it is not required.

How do cabling and PoE change the quote?

All indoor Verkada cameras use industry-standard 802.3af PoE, and most outdoor Verkada camera models require the higher-power 802.3at PoE+ standard.

That pushes cost into the switch. The page says to make sure you do not exceed the PoE budget on your switch, and to use PoE injectors between the camera and the switch if PoE is not available.

Verkada's AC12 datasheet says the AC12 is powered by a single PoE cable, minimizing the need for costly building modifications or long low-voltage cable runs. Verkada's wiring guide says all components connected to the access controller, including locks, must be connected with shielding cabling.

Long runs, hard ceilings and switch ports are what a site walk settles. Elwin's commercial low-voltage security wiring page covers cable and power runs.

How does warranty affect the cost of ownership?

Verkada's help center says its warranties are up to 10 years, depending on the model of your Verkada device.

The same page gives the main limit: the product must not be damaged by an accident, abuse or misuse, acts of God, or any unauthorized use of the hardware. Verkada says to delete a product from Command when you uninstall or replace it, for example for a warranty replacement.

What should a Verkada quote list?

  • License lines by product family, with the term in years, and the date the term starts.
  • Door count and controller class for each controller, and which doors keep their existing readers.
  • Camera count by model, and any non-Verkada cameras that need a Command Connector.
  • The lock at each door, and whether it needs an external power supply.
  • Cable runs, switch ports and PoE class for each camera and controller.
  • Whose name the Command organization is in, and who renews the licenses.

Questions about Verkada pricing

Is there a monthly fee for Verkada?

Command licenses are available in 1, 3, 5, and 10-year terms, according to Verkada's help center.

What happens if a Verkada license lapses?

Verkada's license page gives an expired organization a 30-day grace period and an organization with insufficient licenses a 90-day grace period. The page also says devices remain functional when access to Command is restricted.

Can I keep my existing readers?

Verkada's access control page says you can keep existing readers and cards or upgrade to modern credentials. Check each reader type with your installer before you count on it.

Where can I find Verkada's own prices?

On Verkada's pricing page and in the device datasheets. We do not repeat them here because they change.
