Viking Electronics intercom repair and replacement for Bay Area properties.

Elwin Security repairs and replaces Viking Electronics entry phones at Bay Area multifamily and commercial properties. The work reaches the controller relay that releases the door or gate, the phone line or phone-system station the phone calls through, and the move to Viking's IP models when the line is the problem.

For properties where a Viking entry phone has stopped doing its job.

Each of these situations has a different fix, and the phone model and the controller behind it decide which one applies.

01

The call never connects

Viking's manuals for both state that a TBB-1B Talk Battery Booster may be required when a line powered phone is installed on a low voltage or low loop current phone system extension. A phone that goes quiet when the Call button is pressed is tested at the line before any part is ordered.

02

The door does not release

Where that relay drives a maglock or an exit door, your fire marshal or AHJ determines compliance.

03

The phone line is the problem

The condition of the line decides whether the fix is a booster, a controller, or an IP replacement.

Repair, rewire or replace: the model and the line decide.

The first job is to identify the phone, the controller, the line type and the relay wiring.

01

Repair with Viking parts and documents

Viking sells parts through its online spare parts store, and the E-10 Series rough-in box (part # 259576) may be purchased separately.

02

Fix the controller and the line

The K-1900-3 stores up to 250 telephone numbers and 250 keyless entry codes and is programmed locally or remotely from a touch tone phone. The C-3000 uses the building's existing telephone wiring, with 12 tenants per module and up to 96 tenants across eight modules, and the C-4000 serves four entry points with 250 numbers and 250 entry codes. Elwin configures directories and entry codes, checks talk battery and loop current, and replaces a failed controller with the matching Viking model.

03

Replace the system

Viking's K-1700-IP is a SIP entry phone powered by PoE class 2 at under 6.5 watts, with 250 programmable numbers plus 250 rollover numbers, up to 1,000 keyless entry codes and 1,000 proximity card numbers, and two sets of SPDT 2 A relay contacts. Viking's K-1700-IP manual states that installation requires the assistance of a network administrator or IT technician.

What Elwin checks before quoting a Viking repair or replacement.

A model number on the faceplate is not enough. The controller, the line type and the relay wiring decide which Viking parts and settings will work.

01

Phone and controller

Faceplate model and serial label, DIP switch positions, and which controller the phone is wired to. Viking states that the E-10 Series will not mount to a standard double gang box.

02

Line type

CO line, analog PABX or KSU station, FXS port, or no CO line on a C-3000. Viking's manuals call for a TBB-1B Talk Battery Booster where a line powered phone sits on a low voltage or low loop current extension.

03

Release path

Which relay drives which door or gate, and the relay activation code and time programmed in the controller.

04

Directory and programming

Tenant count against the controller's capacity, and whether programming happens from a touch tone phone or a PC on the C-4000's RS-232 port.

A Viking entry phone scope includes the phone, the controller, the line and the release wiring.

The phone, the controller, the line and the release wiring are what a repair touches.

Entry phones

The K-1700-3 has a 14 gauge 316 stainless steel faceplate, a Call button switch sealed per IP67, and DIP switches for maximum call time, auto-answer and VOX switching speed. Viking's EWP (Enhanced Weather Protection) versions are designed to meet IP66.

Controllers

The K-1900-3 has DPDT relay contacts for controlling door strikes, magnetic locks and gates. The C-3000 supports two entry doors and two door strikes and rings tenant phones from a 90 V AC nominal, 7 REN ring generator.

Line and power

The K-1700-IP needs IEEE 802.3af PoE and a SIP server, and Viking's manual shows an optional PoE injector for a VoIP PBX that does not supply PoE.

Release wiring

The relay contact in a Viking controller closes a circuit; the strike, maglock or gate operator at the door does the work. The C-3000 manual directs installers to use the relay contacts of the Primary module to activate door strikes, magnetic locks and gate controls. Where that hardware sits on a fire-rated or exit door, your fire marshal or AHJ determines compliance.

Repair decisions follow Viking's published manuals.

01

Identify the system

Record the phone model, controller, line type, talk battery and relay wiring, then test the Call button, keypad, call progress and release at the panel.

Result: The quote names the exact Viking part, setting or replacement, not a generic intercom repair.

02

Choose repair, rewire or replacement

Match the failure to Viking's documents: a rough-in box, a controller reprogram, a talk battery booster, or a K-1700-IP or video intercom replacement.

Result: The property knows what the fix costs and what it leaves in place.

03

Install, program and hand off

Install the part or system, load the directory and entry codes, set the relay activation code and time, test each call path and release, and show the property team how programming works.

Result: The entry works and the property can manage its own directory.

What Viking's own documents say about repair.

Viking publishes its warranty terms and an online spare parts store. The warranty terms are on Viking's warranty information page.

Viking warrants its products against defects in workmanship or materials, under normal use and service, for two years from the date of purchase from an authorized Viking distributor. A return requires a Return Authorization number from Viking's Technical Support Department at 715-386-8666.

Viking's warranty does not cover damage from lightning, over voltage or under voltage, non-EWP products that have been exposed to wet or corrosive environments, or stainless steel surfaces that have not been properly maintained.

FAQ

Yes, with the right controller or model. Viking's C-3000 provides multi-tenant building access without the need for any CO lines, using the building's existing telephone wiring, as long as each tenant has a touch tone telephone wired to the apartment.

Start with the symptom.

Tell Elwin what is not working, what systems are already on site, and which access points matter most. The next step is a scope grounded in the building, not a generic product list.
